The Adventures of Little Miss Candy Cane Jayne, Entry #2
Hi Everyone! I am still so very excited about this blog and I have been thinking all week about what I should make my second post about and then it hit me! Since I am using Alex and Amy’s blog, I thought I would tell you about how I met them!
I guess it was about six or seven years ago, I was on a mission for Santa. He wanted me to go to Hershey, PA but somehow my sled landed in Virginia. It was a full moon that night and for some reason, my official North Pole GPS was acting really strange. My system said I was over Pennsylvania, but I was actually over Virginia! I did think it was strange that I kept seeing these blue-colored mountains and I thought I even saw a really big lake and I knew that wasn’t supposed to be in the middle of Hershey. I looked around for a field to land Donder and Blitzen in so I could call Vespucci. He is our elf in charge of all the routes us elves take when we run errands for Santa.
It was then, I saw it! There in the middle of a bunch of trees was a field that was fairly secluded and it looked like a perfect spot to land undetected to any humans. As I got closer to the field, I noticed there were about a dozen black and white cows that sprinted and started to buck. I guess seeing two flying reindeer and a strange little elf scared them, but it was me who was actually startled. HaHa!
I landed in the field next to the tree line and started studying my map and picked up our special phones that dial back to the North Pole. We have a special cell tower that will pick up a signal anywhere in the world. It was designed by another one of our elves. She likes to call it the S.A.N.T.A. Network, short for “Signals Are Not Totally Absent.” Anyway, as I was getting ready to make that call, I heard the loudest gasp. I turned around so quickly that I dropped my map and my phone. And there she was, it was Emily Lucy. Of course I knew who she was, us elves know all the children of the world!
Emily stared at me with her mouth open and her brown eyes were big and round in astonishment. I giggled and climbed down from my sleigh. “Hi Emily!” I said. She continued to stare at me, unable to move. I remember telling her, “My name is Little Miss Candy Cane Jayne and I am one of Santa Claus’s elves. I am lost and need help. Would you mind helping me?” At that moment, Emily blinked and smiled revealing her missing front teeth. “Well, Of course I will help you! Santa Claus is my favorite person ever!”
Emily grabbed my hand and started pulling me towards her house. We ran through the field as quickly as Emily could go. By the time we reached her back door, I was out of breath and Emily was yelling for her mommy and daddy. Can you imagine their surprise when they saw me? Here stood a smallish individual in overalls and I am sure I smelled like chocolate with a little mint mixed in there. Before any of us could speak, Emily blurted out, “Mama! Daddy! This is one of Santa’s elves, Candy Cane Jayne!” Alex and Amy both spoke at the same time, “Okay. Nice to meet you.” They were very kind to me considering they have probably never seen an elf before, especially one of Santa’s!
For the rest of the evening, we sat in the kitchen and chit-chatted. I told them all about Santa (well as much as I was allowed to tell) and how much he enjoyed hot chocolate. I explained to them my current mission was to go back to Hershey, PA and gather more chocolate for Santa’s afternoon cups of hot chocolate because he really liked that particular chocolate for an afternoon pick-up. After I got done in Hershey, I was supposed to go to Madagascar in search of vanilla beans to make extract. Both Mrs. Claus and Santa love homemade vanilla extract.
All the time we talked, Amy offered me her homemade hot chocolate and some of Morgan’s banana white chocolate chip muffins (Morgan is one of their other daughters). Oh boy, were they delicious! The muffins were so moist, and the flavor was out of this world. I could not think of anything that would’ve gone better with those muffins than hot chocolate! That is when I noticed that Amy’s hot chocolate had a hint of vanilla taste. Amy told me she added her homemade vanilla extract to her hot chocolate recipe. AND she used beans grown in Madagascar! That was it. From that point on, I was convinced my GPS had intended to bring me to The Burning Barrel Farm the entire time. It was like Santa had known and secretly programmed my sled!
Well, I guess that’s it! Over the years, I have continued to visit the Lucy family whenever I am close to Virginia. Every time, Amy makes me hot chocolate and Morgan serves me her muffins. She even gives me some to take to Santa. He absolutely LOVES them, too! Over the years, I have been able to watch the Lucy children grow. What a ride that has been! There are so many stories I could tell, but I think I will stop there, at least until next time! Thank you to all of you who have read my blog. It is so much fun!!
P.S. I have included a drawing of myself that Emily did! I think it's pretty accurate...who am I kidding, I LOVE IT!!
I loved reading this and look forward to your next blog!
